Check out my Sweet Ride October 07.... fuck

Here are some new songs: "My Brother, The Astronaut" and "Katsuki and the Stilettoed Stranger", one of which might sound familiar because there's a shameless disco remix of it somewhere on the World Wide Web. The other one - My Brother.. - is our forthcoming single out on 29th October (just in time for Christmas) so put that date in your diary and tell all the family.

So now you're probably wondering how you can get hold of a copy of this sumptuous limited edition 7" white vinyl (500 copies) also featuring "Good People Go To Heaven" as a b-side...

Well look no further because we'll be putting up a pre-order link real soon and the first 50 orders will be signed by the band... maybe even with some extra custom artwork. So if you don't want your precious vinyl scribbled on, hold back on your order for a while.

For those of you who prefer your music in a less tangible format, the single will also be available on itunes and will feature a newly recorded verson of "The Choreographer", exclusive to the digital download.

That's the news, now keep off the crack.

News Update September 07

Blog!

Hello, since the tour we have been filling our time rehearsing, writing, planning, chilling, because noone would book us for any festivals. What can you do...?!
The album has now been finished and mastered, which is nice...one less thing...

"My Brother, The Astronaut" is going to be released as a limited edition 7" single and download, on October 29th, the b-side is entitled "Good People Go To Heaven". More details on where to get hold of the vinyl when we know. Despite the album being finished it won't be surfacing til next year - this is all down to something called 'marketing', which I keep hearing a lot about....

In other news, Alex has decided he wants to do something else musically, and is leaving the band. So we'll be looking for another live guitarist over the next few weeks, and blagging it as a three-piece until we do. Just like the good old days, haha.

Grand tour blog vol. 4

Last night was Hertford marquee. I've noticed that the closer you get to London, the higher the chance that half the crowd will leave after watching their mates' band. Good venue though. Winterkids locked their keys in their van at the end of the night, which was very unfortunate... but no doubt divine justice for twisting the outcome of our inter-band bowling tournament earlier in the week (we won.) They kicked our arse at lazer quest though. We probably should have a darts showdown or something... all tie-breaker sport suggestions welcome... oh, and if you're reading this, get down to the boiler room in guildford tonight if you can, it will be tip top.

Grand tour blog vol. 3

Kingston was pretty surreal, a giant inflatable shark was suspended above the stage and i believe the next function was an ibiza foam party. Special mention to the man who came up to us outside after the show to say that despite not normally being into our sort of music we got him 'here', which was the biggest compliment and made the whole slightly awkward experience well worthwhile. Got caught in some inexplicable traffic jam at half two in the morning that came from nowhere and disappeared just as fast. The debate over the strange death of liberal england album still rages strongly in the van, and i still think seinfeld is shit. Tonight is Leicester Sumo, pretty much the birthplace for Elles first incarnation, and i'm excited because we'll finally be able to see the back stage area... they had fairy lights and a couch. Mucking fagic! - Alexander

tour diary cont

oh my word. elle milano in almost faultless gig shocker! thankfully someone was shining down on us yesterday as the borderline gig went pretty much as perfect as elle milano can get right now! unfortunately to celebrate i had a bit too much red wine, fell and hurt my foot! lord above! alex is in turmoil over the fact that we are insisting on watching seinfeld on the bus, that man is just too cultured, he need to learn to appreciate his lowest common denominator comedy! we are currently embroiled in a merch stand war with winterkids (all friendly fun of course!). last night we added some fairy lights to our display and apparently today the winterkids are going to up the stakes. by the end of this tour expect some kind of pyrotechnics display over at the merch desk! (please don't wear shell suits to any shows, those things are extremely flammable.)

Grand tour blog vol. 1

We're sat around the breakfast table now, mulling over the joiners and getting 'psyched' about the borderline show tonight. Despite some horrendous technical gremlins the first date was pretty rad... our van isn't shit and max, our driver, turns out to be a family guy connoiseur. The winter kids apparently love curry. Things are looking up.

Indeed... after a serious incident last night in which a fucking huge psychotic moth wreaked havoc in the bedroom (it took 3 of us with pillows and a coat hanger to take it down), we slept in 'real' beds rather than on the floor, so we're fresh and ready for the Boarderline gig. Everyone I've spoken to LOVES this venue so obviously, I'm pumped for this one! We're currently organising some crazy threads to wear tonight so ye be warned, it's gonna be a wacky!
Now we gotta go buy a board to put our merch on and make a sweet display that'll out do the Winterkids' one, we'll probably just add fairy lights... In other news, we're trying to come up with a name for this tour... "Hi Fives & Slow Jives Tour 2007" ?

Fuck the harmony, stick to the crescendo.

I get sick of electric guitars. I think we all do. It started on a tour last year, playing a club in Liverpool where the white noise on stage was relentless. Either you wear ear plugs that remove all the attack and clarity from your playing, or you don't and can't sleep for the tinitus...

No, i'm beginning to believe that the future of valid* contemporary music lies in a swing back to instrumentation prominent in arts golden age: romanticism. The fundamental problem with the electric guitar, for me, is that you have to simulate emotivity e.g. with distortion or reverbs, and a punk rock ethic can only take one so far. For all the cliched and irrelevant images of drugs, bad teeth and hedonism this term conjures up, the true heart of punk (long lost in 'punk' bands) is the nobility of defiant self-expression and creating music that was challenging and uncompromising. Note the 'is' and 'was.'

It wasn't so long ago that i had never been to a classical concert. And so, eager to support my ladyfriend, i found myself in a church in Aldershot watching an orchestra perfoming Jean Sibelius' violin concerto in D minor and Ralph Vaughn Williams' "The Lark Ascending." I highly recommend, if you consider yourself a lover of music and believe in its power to enlighten and empower the human heart and mind, you should go out into the cultural wastes of the world and salvage these two pieces of music.

Perhaps i am being too harsh. After all, you can download bothof these on itunes. I suppose i find some bitter humour in the ease of access to fantastic art, yet the cultural spotlight of our generation always slips down to the muck of the tap-your-foot-a-hum-a-long-a-tunes lazily farted out by the likes of the pigeon detectives. Its not their fault though, its a gradual and global decline in artistic standards... fuck... i apologise, i didn't mean for this to become such a lament. Call it the repressed romantic in me.

- Alexander

*why are the Arcade Fire and Gogol Bordello such life-affirming bands to watch? I'm beginning to think you could do anything, no matter how technically incredible or sonically unique with electric guitars and i (and everyone else) would be so desensitized to it that it would provoke no emotional or intellectual reaction whatsoever. We've hit saturation point. If you're reading this and want to learn an instrument, please, for the good of humanity, skip argos and get a cheap electric piano, a violin, a cello, a tuba, anything!

Safe Passage

And here it is, the first Elle Milano blog, the chances are you ended up here because you've just seen our incredible new website and followed the link. This is where we're going to be exposing our thoughts and posting news and updates.

So this is what's been occupying us for the past week:

1) Getting the album mixed: much like the recording of the album, this is taking a long time coz we're so precious about it all. Also, we have decided on an album title so watch this space.

2) Mario Kart 64.

3) Rehearsing: Yep, we've got a tour coming up.

4) Snowboard Kids 64.

5) Album Artwork: Mr Petersen is taking the reins on the this one so watch out.

6) Chicken Police: Type it into youtube, you won't be disappointed.

Also, we request that anyone who comes to our gigs brings a stick (from a tree) and NOT a glow stick, keeping it au naturale. It's gonna be all the rage, 'pooh sticks' are definitely the way forward, for more info go here: http://www.theenchanted100acrewoods.50megs.com/poohsticks.htm

Failing that just bring some peshwari naan with you and we'll try and get you in for free.
